Today, the Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, introduced the following appointments to help the enlargement of Unified Family Courts in Ontario.

Diana Piccoli, Partner at SV Law, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, a member of the Family Court Branch, and a Judge ex officio of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Jennifer Breithaupt Smith, the sole practitioner at Breithaupt Law, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, a member of the Family Court department, and a Judge ex officio of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Mary Anne Kril, the sole practitioner at M.A.K. Family Law is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, a member of the Family Court Branch, and a Judge ex officio of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Biographies

Justice Piccoli graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. After obtaining her LL.B. From the University of Ottawa, in May 1993, she articled at a small firm in Kitchener, Ontario, and became referred to as to the bar in February 1995. Justice Piccoli lowers back to the Kitchener firm to start her practice, gaining various revel in various family law cases and civil instances regarding attacks against kids. In 1997, she started working in her fatherland of Guelph, Ontario, with Valeriote, Valeriote, which finally merged with Smith Smith in 2001. Justice Piccoli has been a partner at SmithValeriote Law Firm LLP because 2001. Throughout her profession, Justice Piccoli has mentored many younger lawyers. She has usually been inspired to help others inside the community and in her career. Justice Piccoli has served on many boards in her network, including Women In Crisis, Family and Children’s Services, and the Foundation of the Guelph General Hospital. Children maintain a special region in their coronary heart, and they were a panel member of the Office of the Children’s attorney for some of the years. Justice Piccoli’s exercise has by and large been focussed on the region of Family Law. She locations remarkable significance on the circle of relatives, pals, and community and is the proud mom of two super young women.

Following her undergraduate studies at Queen’s University, Justice Breithaupt Smith graduated from Western University Law and became called to the bar in 2003. Jennifer’s early exercise at a litigation company in Waterloo fashioned her profession. In January of 2007, Jennifer opened her own firm in Kitchener and joined the Office of the Children’s Lawyer’s panel in 2015. At the time of her appointment, Justice Breithaupt Smith sat at the board of The Advocates Society (TAS), wherein her enthusiasm for expert development started for the duration of her time as a scholar. Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples is a guiding precept for Justice Breithaupt Smith. She is honored to be asked to attend Circle for her toddler customers and to have served as a Director of Healing of the Seven Generations, Waterloo Region’s pre-eminent Indigenous cultural recuperation corporation.

Her deep neighborhood roots forced Justice Breithaupt Smith to engage in many network tasks, from chairing a Kitchener City Council Advisory Committee to teaching karate. She and her husband are proud to raise the son of their shared place of origin.

Justice Kril is a primary-technology Canadian of Ukrainian descent. She did her undergraduate work at Queen’s University, graduating with the Gold Medal in Sociology. She went on to earn a Master of Arts degree and commenced her Ph.D. research before deciding that she had to study an alternate. She selected the regulation and graduated from the University of Toronto with prizes in administrative and own family law and a three-month-vintage baby boy. In addition, she became awarded the Treasurer’s Medal for the highest standing inside the Bar Admission Course and guidance industrial litigation with a leading firm in Toronto.
